This past weekend the man I plan on marrying found out that he may have a 9 year old son. He has known for the past ten years that this could be a possibility and he told me about this early in the relationship. I was told that I would not have to worry about this because she moved out of state before the child was born and denied him a paternity test.

Since this child was born, he has gotten married, gotten divorced and had another child who is now 7. He has full cutody of his 7 year old as gets minimal support from his ex-wife. From what I gather from the 3 page hanwritten letter that showed up on Saturday, this woman is getting divorced from the man who has raised her son for the past 9 years and she wants my man to take a paternity test to establish child support. The papers are in the mail. I have also learned that my man is not listed on the birth certificate as the father and the child has his step-father's last name.

What I need to know is, in the state of Ohio, what are you legally obligated to to after 9 years. Does he have to submit to a paternity test, and if so, and he is found to be the father, what kind of support is he required to provide. We barely make enough money to keep the roof over our head and the car in the driveway, let alone pay for a child that we don't know. We have to see if there is a way to get out of this. Can you please provide any helpful information? This situation is ripping our family apart.

Yes he will have to take the DNA test if the court orders him to take it.

And his support will be based on that state law, using a percent of his salary as a base to use.
