My shower will not stay warm. Sometimes within a minute it will just go to scolding HOT water and basically burn you. I then I have to turn the handle all the way to cold. I basically have a choice to take a scolding hot shower or a freezing cold water. What could be wrong?

Sounds like a termostaticly controlled valve should look at replacing. Or could be a pressure imbalance with I'm those lines

Hi Sweetcandy...

It sounds like your pressure balancing spool has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

I suggest that you shut off water flow to the valve and disassemble the unit. Pull out the balancing spool and see if there is any obvious issue with it./ If there is nothing obvious, take the pressure balancing spool over to a local plumbing supply store and see if they have a replacement. If they have the replacement it should be as easy as swapping out the old for the new, right? If they don't have the spool, then they should be able to direct you to a local home improvement store for the correct replacement part, OK?

If none of this made sense, contact a local plumber as they should be able to pop by and determine what exactly needs to be done.

Good luck!
