View Full Version : Loud banging from baseboard water heaters?

I have a baseboard hot water heater. When I go to bed at night I turn down the temperature on my thermostat. At about 4am in the morning the temperature has dropped so much that the heat kicks in and the pipes make the loudest banging noises. This continues for an hour repeatedly extremely loud until the heat shuts off/reaches its temperature. How can I get this banging to stop? Will bleeding the pipes really help? I live in a brand new apartment.

If its brand new it might be under warranty. Bleeding could help if there`s air in the system. 3rd option is to not turn the tstat down at night, most people have found that turning heat down at night might save a little money but when its turned back up when they get up it takes a longer time to get the temp back up they haven`t saved anything in the long run, if you like a cool room while sleeping you might turn down the heat in the one room or cracking a window just a smidge,, just a few thoughts

So we've tried bleeding that helped last year. Not so much this year. As for turning down the tstat at night we have it set low but at about 430 the temp still falls below the 63 where we have it set and the heat kicks on. Any other suggestions? I was thinking turning the temp way up to expand the pipes may help for a little while?
