I have an MTD Yardman with a 20hp B & S Intek V-Twin engine. The mower was running OK when last used but, after stopping for about 1/2 hour, wouldn't restart.
I replaced the plugs and checked spark - both OK.
Replaced fuel filter. Fuel flowing through filter and pump, and reaching carburettor.
Still wouldn't start.
Put some fuel into carburettor through air intake. Fired but died.
I suspect that it may be the fuel solenoid at the base of the carburettor.
Any suggestions as to how I should test to see if this is the problem, and how I fix it.

Thanks

B&S has a small fuel pump mounted on the side of the engine. Disconnect your fuel line before it attaches to the carb. Crank the engine and see if you have fuel pressure.

You may be right with regards to the solenoid, You need to test voltage at the solenoid first and confirm 12-V. If you have proper voltage turn the key to the off and on position and listen for the clicking noise. You can diagnose a fuel delivery problem by removing the air cleaner and putting a tablespoon of fuel in the carb, if it runs and dies you have a fuel problem blockage in the fuel system, main nozzle, solenoid or a fuel pump. The fuel pump is a diaphragm working off positive and negative crankcase pressure and very rarely needs replacing.

You may also check for a low oil (pressure) shutdown I do not remember seeing one on a riding tractor though.
