We have a 2007 Ford F250 Powerstroke Diesel. We purchased it new and it now has over 110,000 miles. When the engine has been sitting idle and is cool - it starts right up and runs great for the entire trip. Howere, once it is shut off it will not re-start until the engine has a chance to cool. We are stumped.

On diesel engines that will not restart, after they are warmed up, it's often a sign of a tired fuel pump. As they heat soak, inside pump head clearances increase and it will no longer develop sufficient fuel pressure at cranking speed. While it's running, fuel helps cool the pump by carrying the heat away.

We had this problem on our 2006. It was a leak in the oil pressure system. $450 to get repaired at a shop.
