I have a trane outside and a Ceiling unit inside, about every 6 months the capacitor swells up and I have to replace it Costly. I have asked why this occurs and each time they say replace the unit. But cannot provide me any answer. I thought Tranes lived a long and lasting life. I did notice that the 30 amp breaker for the AC comp outside shares a few outlets in the house, would this add to the capacitor failure ? Does anyone have any idea on why this occurs ? Thanks

You probably are for some reason having power surges coming into your house,, or not quite enough power into the condenser unit, I would have the power company out to check your service, you might check your breaker box and make sure there is nothing tagged to the breaker that should be for ac use only, nothing else attached to the ac breaker,, but until you figure out the reasons for capicitor failure, it would pay you to learn how to replace it yourself,, its pretty simple and would only cost you maybe $35.00 for the part, just get an exact match of what is in it now
