I never really understood. It's kind of bland to me. What's the big deal?

Everyone does not listen to it. Many like country, some like soul, others jazz.

When I was at school I listened to a lot of rock and metal music. Someone that was heavily into R&B asked me one day "What do you GET from rock music?"... I didn't know how to answer. It's just preference!

Sorry, don't get me wrong here. I understand that everyone has their preference and I respect that. I just wondering what other find appealing in music. More specifically pop, which I've never really enjoyed. So I was just wondering what others find in it that makes them enjoy it.

I like what is sometimes called smooth jazz/contemporary jazz -- David Lanz, George Winston, Jim Brickman, John David Miller (my friend at Intel). I also love doo wop.

I seriously don't like it, I feel like so much music isn't put out there enough so it's always the same genres that are being promoted and everyone conforms and buys them to be like everyone else. :P

The Pop in POP music literally means POPular, i.e. a lot of people like that particular genre.
