Yes you can. It seems no one stopped him, because your title is 'dog killed a cat.'
The dog wasn't playing if it killed.

The dog can be taken away and the owners sued. The dog shouldn't be allowed around children now.

I think we need to know more about what happened. It's one thing if a large dog is playing with a cat and somehow rolls over on it.

It's another if the dog picks up the cat and shakes it.

You have no idea how many animal "incidents" I've investigated where the owner insists the animal that did the damage was only "playing."

It's a dogs natural instinct to kill other animals. It seems yours might have a high prey drive. You can curb this behavior, but it's a natural instinct, so it might be more about avoiding the situations than stopping it all together.

I agree with Judy, more info is needed about the situation. I have had dogs kill rabbits and other various rodents, but not touch a cat. I have a dog now that would surly kill a cat if she got the chance.

Totally un true. Animal aggression is totally different than human aggression. Joy you have a tendency to put human emotions and reactions to your dogs. A lot of dogs have higher prey drives. I have one now, I also have a 4 year old who I have absolutely no concerns with playing or laying beside. No I wouldn't allow them to be alone, but that goes for any dog and kids.

The Ops dog is just that, a dog. My dog Max was a notorious rabbit killer. He didn't tear them limb from limb, but he mauled them, he was a dog, and that's what dogs do.

I have a whole kennel full of cat killing dogs... They're all bird dogs.. they were bred to hunt small, slinky animals.. Cats are small and slinky. Can they be around children? Yes. Are they still good dogs? Yes. They just cannot go to homes with cats. No exceptions.

Dogs who are OK with cats, typically grew up with them. But even those dogs can kill a cat.

And when dogs "play" they are actually learning how to become better hunters/killers... So when a dog, of any size, plays with a cat.. close attention is needed so that dog doesn't kill that cat at any point.
