I re-plumbed my shower, replaced the Delta valve, bought a new cartridge and replaced - now I cannot shut the water off at the wall - what's up?

replaced the Delta valve, bought a new cartridge What am I missing? If you replaced the valve why did you have to buy a new cartridge? We need the model # of the Delta valve before we can proceed.
