I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 with a VGA connection. I want to use my Panasonic flat screen TV as an external monitor. Unfortunately, the TV does not have a VGA connection. I bought a VGA to HDMI converter and attempted to connect it to my laptop. Although I was successful in connecting my HP laptop to the TV as a monitor using an S-Video cable connection, I was not pleased with the resolution, color and contrast when displaying a slideshow of photos.

I was hoping to get better results with VGA to HDMI converter but I get a blank screen on my TV monitor. I used the same "Connect to Projector" setting that worked with the S-Video cable but nothing shows on the monitor. When I view devices the "Generic non-PnP Monitor" is displayed.

I also tried using the Function & Alternate monitor f4 key but that did not give me the display on the TV monitor.

Any suggestions?

Since I am guessing the HDMI plug is going into a port on your TV, do you have the TV set to the correct HDMI input option ? For example I have a PS3,Xbox, and a Blu-Ray player connected to my TV. To get to the PS3 I need to have it on HDMI 1 input, the Xbox needs to be on HDMI-2,to get to the Blu-Ray it needs to be on HDMI-Side.
