Heating and A/C has stopped working in my home. It is the furnace transformer. How hard is this to replace myself?For one thing this is an HVAC issue, not electrical, so you may do better on that forum.

I must say though, do you really think "Heating and A/C has stopped working" is enough information to go on to give any diagnosis at all? :confused:
This could be anything from a bad thermostat, to a control transformer, to a tripped breaker, to running out of fuel, to any of dozens of other things.

Thanks I'll try and change to that section. I imagine most people come here in desperate states not trying for the best SEO/quasi findability but thanks, I'll try another thread. It is the transformer. I just want to know how hard they are to fix. I'm getting like $200 quotes and that just sucks this close to Christmas. Plus were cold up here in the high desert. My wife shorted it out trying to put a digital thermostat on. There are no fuses so it's a transformer, unless you see something I don't.

Since I started the thread here already, can you or someone else out there help me out? Furnace is gas/oil Coleman Evron. How hard are they to change?:

Oh wow. I misread the OP, and I'm sorry. I thought it said "Is it the transformer?"

Not being familiar with that unit I can't say.
I would have to guess it is not a big deal since they are usually pretty accessible inside the unit.

That said, $200 for an HVAC guy to come out and replace that part sounds like a pretty good deal. Those guys are typically a good bit more expensive than us.

I see the part online for $35 bucks but if my wife is okay with spending the money I agree calling the contractor out is a good idea. Thanks again.
