Hi all got question for anyone that can answer it. I formatted a hard drive that had winxp home and installed winxp pro because I only have a disc for xp pro. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it started to just switch off so I had to switch it back on again.
I haven't added any other software or hardware to it.
Can any of you guys out there help me
Would be very very grateful for any help.

After you installed windows, it asks you to reboot, is this when it switched off instead of rebooting?

Hi yes it did but you no what I have sorted it... it was a game that my friend put on there was something wrong with it and that's why my PC was switching off. Thanks all the same

But I have another problem... I have a dell d400 latitude laptop and I put my reinstallation dics in to format it because it was running a bit to slow, anyway it was doing great but on the last 90% of the format it just stops. I tried it again but the same thing happens. Any suggestions

Oh, a game cause the problem, interesting... glad you found the problem anyway.

So you tried to reformat the hard drive and it stops at 90%, you don't mean installing Windows and it stopped at 90% right?

Looks like you'll need a third-party hard drive diagnostic program, such as HDD regenerator to check for bad sectors and/or clusters.

Or if the recovery CD allows you to enter Windows recovery console, you can run "chkdsk c: /r" to have it scan and fix bad sectors.

OK a game causes a problem. And you reformat cause you only have an XP Pro disk? Was that disk used to install XP on another machine? Were the resintallation disks for the machine you were using it on?
