What does Code mean on the radio

The code on the radio is for theft deterrent. It will come up when the radio is un-plugged, or the battery is replaced. Depending on the year, it can be in with the owners manual, or on my 98, it was in the cover of one of the fuse boxes. If it is not in either of those, you can try the dealer with the vin, but I was told by the dealer that it was not vin specific, and if it is lost I was out of luck.
