I've been reading forums about efflorescence and the issues people been having. I live in an area that has water issues, basically our neighborhood was built is old swamp lands. I have a non stop flow of water from the edge of lawn to street (spring water). I noticed efflorescence in one area of my crawl space, but it just started building up on garage floor. I just recently stocked up on rock salt, about 20 bags that is stored in the garage. Shortly after, I noticed the floor has this white fuzzy stuff all over it. I'm just curious to know can storing rock salt in a garage have this type of effect too? Far as the 20 bags go, I have a really steep driveway and I'm deploying to Afghanistan during our winter in NC. Wife will have to do the first winter on her own, I just prepped for it. I'd rather have too much than not enough.

Put the salt on a woooden pallet rather than directly on the floor. This will allow some air circulation and cut down on the "fuzz"

Hi NC,

I appears that you you have an obvious water/moisture issue. I agree with the previous poster to put your salt bags up on a pallet... but only after laying down some 6mm plastic sheathing beneath the pallet. You will then be fine for a while. Upon your return we need to address the issue of the moisture/water in your garage for the long haul.

Be safe in your deployment.
