Are you hoping to bring your girlfriend over to Canada?

Unless you really know her and have met her in person, it is likely that you are being scammed. Have you met her online? This is a very common scam to get money from you.

I am sure they want about 10,000 from you or will before it is over.
In real life, it is about 320 dollars for passport and visa, there is no requirement for a medical, there is no requirement for money in the bank. And airfare can be prepaid to the airline.
Ghana is world famous for dating scams, they have rooms full of people, grandmas' men all pretending to be pretty women. They hire some pretty women to do web cams ( but limited for various reasons) but their computer systems keep a history of anything said and the story being used. They have a script they use on why they need all of this money,
Normally after a few months, she is in deep love with you, she will need maybe 500 to 1000 dollars for a passport.
Then she needs about 400 or so for a medical physcial.
Then something happens, she is in a accident, or she is robbed or even kidnapped. At that point her friend contacts you for money to help pay medical bills so she can leave the hospital.
Now at the airport, she finds out she needs 1000 to 10000 dollars to leave the country, but don't worry, she will put it in her bank and give it back to you in a couple weeks, when she gets to the US.
About then, she has gotten about all the money she can from you, and you never hear from her again.
There are 100's of variations of this, but this is the basic plot

Just to add to Fr_Chucks excellent post... He pretty much hit everything dead-on except I wanted to add one other thing to this part that they sometimes do. I have had them pull the sick mother or son/daughter ploy on me as well. Once they think you deeply care for them, they will sometimes pull this and give you the story that someone is terribly sick and they need money to save their lives.
I had one telling me their son was dying and under a doctors care and they needed $500 USD from me to save them. I had them send me proof in the form of a hospital bill and write-up/diagnosis from the doctor. It was a terrible fake job but it just shows the lengths they will go to in order to soak you of your money.
Great post Fr_Chuck... we should actually look to have that made into a stickie if possible.

Someone posted the other day that his Ghana girlfriend's beauty parlor had burned down, and she needed money.

I will add a lot of wonderful people in Ghana, I have dozens of friends from there. A large group of people from there live very close to me. I often have lunch ran by a couple from Ghana. The one thing I know almost none of them would ever ask you for money, They would find a way to the US if you would sponsor them.
