Hey jw77! This is mobilemech - I've been working on anything that burns fuel from lawn mowers to heavy equipment. I'm a machinist by trade and have mfg anything from cut it weld it to nasa prototype robotics. There is nothing I love more than a brain twisting electrical problem!! OK - down to bizz ! The first thing you need is a good digital volt meter - like a fluke DVM - what you will save yourself fixing your own electricl problem (s) will pay for it ten fold. Also a tool called a "logic pen" . A must if your working by yourself. The logic pen is a high tech test light. It has a red and a green led - green = ground red = positive . Invaluable tool when it comes to testing anything with a pulse - like injectors ,cam sensor, crank sensor . When you probe the correct wire while testing these sensors it will flip back and forth red -green-red- green . Third and just as important as the air you breath!! - A manual containing complete wireing diagrams for your yr/make/model/engine of car.A given circuit will branch several directions - pos & negative - effecting multible components/circuts. Wireing is very simple - study your diagram-if you're a beginner (?) start at the electrical symbols at the front of the wireing section, over time it gets easier. The diagrams look confusing - there not - look at the circuit your having a problem with -not the whole page.Take your time, its like tieing you shoes. I know I didn't answer your specifice question ! I ANSWERED ALL THE QUESTIONS " YOUR GOING TO HAVE "!! Hope I've been some help to you ! Stay in touch !

Basic - battery to fuse/relay box . Some circuts hot all the time , some ignition. ( hot only when key is on ) Key - on powers up main relays - powers up ecu -ecu sends and receives signals to and from engine when cranking -engine starts ! WHEN ALL IS WELL!!
