I am in the Army and currently stationed in North Carolina. I recently married and found out that my wife is a convicted felon (non-violent crime) in the state of NC. I am an avid hunter and firearm enthusiast. I am also licensed to carry a concealed firearm in this state and have been living with my wife for some time without knowledge of her felon. Can I legally keep firearms in our home according to NC law? And if not, what can we do to remedy this?

Is she on probation? If so, I would talk to her PO about it.

I suspect, if you keep the guns locked up, you should be OK.

Well, its been ten plus years since her charge, she is not on probation and her time was served long ago. I definitely keep my firearms secure. Just wanted to double down on everything. I don't want either of us to get caught up in anything over something as stupid as not knowing.

I did look to see if I could find anything specific in NC gun laws (that's how I cam up with that link). I would suggest asking the base law office to see if they can give you a more specific cite.

YOU can keep firearms... It's your wife who can't be around them... Locked up MIGHT save her. But, it MIGHT not. I'd apply for (1) her gun rights to be restored, and/or (2) a pardon.

Although I normally agree with Scott, if there's a probation violation pending, I would NOT snitch on my wife. Her PO is NOT her friend, OR her lawyer.
