WHy did the Union uniforms mean so much to the men in the movie "Glory"?

Not quite sure what you mean, but I would assume the uniforms were so important to the colored troops because slaves that fought on the Union side gained their freedom... (I haven't had US history for like 20yrs, you should probably check on that... )
