I work in New York, but I live in Georgia. To be more precise, my duty station for the FAA is in New York, but I stated that my residence is in Georgia since my job requires that I travel 100% of the time. I know that I will have to pay New York income tax, but since I will only be living in Georgia for a small amount of time in a year, will I have to pay the full Georgia income tax? Or will my income tax be divided between the two states? Any input will be of great help to me.

As a GA resident you first complete tax forms for NY and any other state where you earned income. Then do your GA tax return -it will ask you to report ALL income for the year, and calculate a preliminary tax on the full amount, but the last step is to take a credit for taxes paid to other jurisdictions (namely NY). Bottom line is GA does not tax your out-of-state income to the extent that you have paid income tax to some other state on that income.

In fact, it is likely that the NY state tax paid will COMPLETELY OFFSET your Georgia state tax liability.
