I just broke up with my boyfriend of three months due to some compatibility issues. He had bought two tickets to New York a month ago so he could introduce me to his friend up there. If the tickets are non refundable should I pay him back $100 for my ticket? I don't really have that kind of money to spend right now but I feel terrible and think this might be the right thing. I think he expects me to pay him back even though he hasn't said it yet but even from the first date he has been a little obsessed with money. I probably spent more money in the time we were together than he did because I got tired of hearing him talk about it. If I spent more anyway should I pay him back?

If he makes a pest of himself, CONSIDER IT, if not, then that's the price of dating. Maybe you still have the blues from the break up, but we all do what we think is best for ourselves.
No don't go back and make this a tit for tat excuse game. That's not fair.

I will sort of agree. First what is he doing with the ticket, has he tried to sell it on eBay or craigslist for something, even 1/2 price.
After that is there another friend ( not girl friend, unless he has moved on already) that he can use the ticket for ?

If he surprised you with a ticket to NY, over a nice dinner, in a restaurant, then I would consider it a gift, and would not pay it back.
If the two of you discussed going to NY, and you had agreed to going, I would pay back the $100.00
Especially if you agreed, before he bought the tickets.
I get the impression that if money was always an issue with him, he likely expected, and you likely assumed, that you would be paying for your ticket. Unless you specifically said something like he'd buy the tickets, you pay for the meals.
I think the right thing to do is to pay for the non-refundable ticket. At least offer.
