I have to connect a PVC toilet flange to a 3" cast iron pipe cut off below a slab (about 5 inches below top of slab. The pipe is exposed OK for a short distance, but not all the way to the next joint, but the cast iron bell was ruined in process of breaking the slab out and had to be cut off. Could not access the next joint below slab without breaking out much more. How can I best connect the PVC toilet flange to the cast iron pipe "stub" without going deeper or having to use cast iron? Thanks for your help.

Hi KS

If you have access to the side of the pipe you can try connecting a 3" cast iron x 3" PVC shielded transition clamp (also called a mission clamp) to a new PVC closet flange (will need a piece of pipe in between clamp and PVC flange)... see image.

DO NOT use a non-shielded clamp such as the all neoprene fernco with 2 SS bands... not acceptable above ground.
