Start by checking the breaker or fuse for this circuit to insure you have power, I think you won't find any. Back to you

My husband said it's not that, the circuit breaker is down in the basement. The light to the fan still works

Pulling the switch may have disconnected the fan wire. Drop the light assembly from the fan and see if a wire is off.

Just to be sure we got this right, you pulled the light switch chain and now the fan doesn't work, right?

That's correct and when I pulled the light switch chain it made a pop sound and a spark

You pulled the switch, you hear a pop and see a spark, correct?
It is entirely possible that when you pulled the chain, a capacitor within the fan body shorted out.
How old is the fan? You might be smarter just replacing the fan unless you or your husband the requisite skills to work on the electrical components.

With both switches or power off, I would remove the bottom cover, or the light kit, may just be a wire came undone from a wirenut?
