Hi,

We are looking at moving into a new office and needed clarification if the main water feed shut off valve is meant to be in the same room as our electric switch board. Our aim is to use this room as our server room. Is this allowed within the building regulations? See photograph attached.

Thanks

Looking at your picture, I see no code regulations that have been broken.

With that said, I understand your concerns about water and your electric switchboard being in the same room.

If this was my company I would box the main water supply out, but I would be sure that you have ready access to the water main when it is needed for shutting the main water supply off or to change out the water meter if needed... can be done using a small hinged door or front panel, for example.

They also make automatic water shutoffs that you could have installed in the main water supply line. Here, when the sensor on the floor senses water it automatically shuts off the water main supply to the entire building. One name brand to investigate would be the LEAK-GUARDIAN auto. Shutoff.

Alone, boxing the main will protect you from most issues. Combine the box with the auto. Shutoff and you are protected 24/7/365 so that may be best in this case. ;)

Back to you...

I echo Mark's comments and suggestions. The system, as installed, can stand alone anywhere in the house. It is just the aesthetics of it that makes it look too industrial. Also, maintain adequate room around the pipe so it can be serviced and meter read. Good luck. Milo
