It depends on the reason for timing it. Did you replace the chain, or distributor? If replacing the distributor, then put timing mark on the harmonic ballancer on 5 degrees before top dead center, make sure that #1 is on tdc (both rockers should be loose) if not rotate one full turn bact to 5 degrees, then install the distributor with the rotor pointing at about 10 o clock (when looking strait over the distributor) connect the cap and all the wires. Firing order is 1-3-4-2. Adjusting is a little harder. Requires a few special tools. But the specs are 10-14 degrees before TDC with a warm motor idling about 750 rpm
