It is possible, but the more likely cause is perimenopause. It is not uncommon to start to have irregular bleeding, either unusually heavy or unusual light with periods that arrive at times other than the norm.
When in doubt, it is always wise to see your gyn when you have unusual bleeding.

If you think that there was a possibility of pregnancy, then yes you could have had a mis-carried,in which case it may be an idea to go and get yourself checked out by your doctor.
Another possibility is the start of the menopause. This can start with heavy or light or no period at all for a month then a really heavy flow the following month.
There will be no pattern at all that you will be able to follow : it could be a few spots for one month followed by absolute floods the next.Your periods could just gradually stop altogether, just being less and less each month, until nothing or they may be very erratic.
Do you feel OK in yourself? Have you been feeling a little low or lack of energy, maybe a bit emotional,in fact generally under the weather.
Remembering that if you had a miscarriage then you would also be feeling a little low etc.
If you go and see your doctor he/she can do a hormone level check, which should give you some answers.
