Hi,
I am F-1 student and trying to file federal tax for the fifth year. This year an email was sent by one Mr. Tony Patel to all the Indian students in our university promising that we would get all the withheld amount back + $30!! Is this a genuine case? If I file by myself I would be getting only $800 out of 1600 withheld but according to him I would get 1630! Is this appropriate? Will there be a problem when I file for green card? Please help..
Thanks
Murali.

I would never put out such a blanket statement. Be VERY skeptical!

Well actually he gets your money back for sure. But the problem lies here, they claim refund for items that you don't qualify. Hence its illegal. You maynot run into the problem the same year or the next, but there is every chance that you may run into it in the future. So please avoid these people for your own good. As a matter of fact, I did tax return for two years through them
