I have a 36"x42" fiberglass shower (mfg: Jacuzzi) on the second floor that is leaking from the drain. I have opened up the ceiling on the first floor for access and had a plumber take a look at it. Appaently the problem is caused by a slight movement of the drain when someone steps into the shower and the fact the drain pipe does not extend high enough? I am not a plumber but this is what I was told. I was told to have a new shower base installed that is more rigid and has a drain the extends lower to meet the drain pipe. This sounds pretty extreme. I'm wondering if I can simply extent the drain pipe higher or add a piece that is flexible to absorb any continued movement in the drain. Thanks in advance.

Not knowing the type of drain you have I can only suggest that the tail piece from the trap be extended. Forcing you to install a new shower for a installers mistake seems a little extreme to me. While you have it open put in a longer tailpiece or just change the drain out completely. Let me know how you make out. Good luck, Tom
