Hello, I am trying to wire in a new light. The ceiling box has a red, a black, a white and a bare wire. The original light had two black and two white wires coming out of it. The old fixture had two bulbs. The white wires were connected to the white wire from the ceiling while the black wires were connected to the red wire from the ceiling. The black and the bare in the ceiling wire were just sitting in the top of the box, unused. My new light however, has a black, a white, and a yellow and green striped wire. How should I wire this up to make sure it is grounded and safe? Thanks

I currently have the black to black, the white to white and the red to the green and yellow striped wire. When I flipped the breaker on the light worked but the switch was turned to the off position. When I flipped the switch, I believe the breaker short circuited and shut it off.

Connect the black wire from the light to the red wire in the box, the white wire from the light to the white wire in the box, the green/yellow wire from the light to the bare wire in the box, no connection to the black wire in the box, make sure it is capped off with a wire nut.
