Apparently we have a sewer line break where our line meets at the street. Of course, they are not sure and need to dye our line to find out. They tell us that they scoped in July. We actually bought this house this last Oct. and we received a letter Nov. 1st. This doesn't seem fair. At the time of our inspections, we have the line scoped and no break was found. The sewer line is fine. Should we have to pay for this?

Are you having a problem? What prompted the scoping?

So much depends on where the break is, and how it happed, you can argue and send in proof of the inspection showing there was no break 30 days earlier.

But basically if it is on your side of the connection, it is yours, if it is on their side it is theirs.

Our concern is that the city scoped in July and is just now informing someone of a possible issue. We closed on this house Oct. 4th. This doesn't seem right. Also, our video shows no break on this side and we have not had any problems with toilets etc.

In my area, you have to hire City bonded sewer contractor to repair it, pay for it, and than sue City for reimbursement. Milo
