A farmer has 3 daughters and 7 1/4 hectares of land.he gave 2/5 of it to the youngest daughter.3/5 of what remains to the next youngest and what remained to the eldest.how much land did each daughter received?

Erika: let's start with this - can you tell us how many acres the youngest daughter received (two fifths of seven-and-a-quarter equals what)? Then after that, how many acres were left for the other two daughters? Post back with answers to those 2 questions and we can go from there.

Divide 7.25 by 5 and multiply by 2. This will give first answer.

Subtract answer from original amount. Divide this answer by 5 and multiply by 3. This will give 2nd answer.

Subtract this answer from first answer and you have 3rd answer.

Steps
[1]multiply 0.4 and 7.25 to find the share of the youngest daugther
[2]subtract your answer from 7.25
[3]multiply this answer and 0.6 to find the share of the next youngest daughter
[4]sutract this answer from the answer obtained in the 2nd step
[5]the answer obtained is the share of the eldest daughter
