Hi I have a 1992 Honda Accord LX the problem I'm having is the rpm's fluctuate at red iights and stop signs, from 1000 -2000 back and forth I was told it was the thermal regulator valve then heard it was a blown head gasket so I replaced the car with a used motor. 40,000 miles and it still fluctuates in rpms I discovered when I pull up on the clutch a bit with the break applied to bring the rmps down for about 5 to 10 seconds, then push the clutch back down and take the car out of 1st gear it will stop but I have to do that every few times I stop. Have you ever hear of such a thing Thanks for your time.

Air in the cooling system often causes this problem. Fill the radiator with coolant, until it comes out of the bleeder bolt. If the problem persists, replace the Ignition Control Module (ICM) inside the distributor. Since the BLU wire on the ICM connects to the tachometer, problems with the ICM are often reflected in fluctuating rpm. Be sure to apply silicone heat transfer compound to the back of the new ICM.

If that doesn't work try simply cleaning the throttle body and the (IACV)... mycivic used to do the same thing... a little cleaning and its good to go
