Hi everyone. I have seen several galleries on the net that are composed of images clearly scanned from newspapers and magazines. How is this not an infringement of copyright laws.
Is it because the site owner makes no financial gain from the images or do they have to get permission from the 'source' of the image first.
I ask because I have a large collection of papers and magazines myself and would possible like to use them when I develop my own site. Thanks.

I have always thought that it is an infringement on Copyright unless you have written permission from the owner. If you go onto some sites it will say what they allow to be done with their images and what is not to be done. Most people will give you permission if you ask

I would get permission from the authors to use the images/papers/magazines - you don't want to be up for a lawsuit!

Go to http://www.benedict.com/info/info.aspx and read all about the law as it stands when considering who owns what in relation to copyright.Easy to follow, with navigational site links, and without any Perry Mason type quotes!
Cheers,
Nez.
