Someone I know got 6 counts of entering an auto with intent to to commit theft. They later found out he was involved && came to the house to pick him up. When they asked he admitted it to the officer he gave them the three items he had on him. They are wanting to hire an attorney but don't know if they are going to have the money so they are more than likely going to have a public defender. I was wanting to know if the public defneder will do him any good && also I want to know if he will receive jail time or just probation. He has never been in trouble with the law before. && he is now going to sign up for his ged && possibly try to find a job.

He's going to spend some time in jail. If it was only 1 count, maybe not, but with 6 counts and the fact he had 3 stolen items on him only means he's going to be spending some time in jail. Don't bother wasting your time hiring an attorney but use the PD instead as you will probably get the same representation since he already confessed to the police (which will be used against him in court). He can get his GED in jail as some jails have this program.

Yes, 6 courts is six separate charges, so they may do court on all six at one time, but most likely will try and work a plea out with him.
Of course they already have him convicted since
1. he confessed
2. he gave them the stolen items ( evidence)
So the other side will not have much reason to plea very much, But public defenders like any attorney, you have good ones and you have lazy ones, you never know. But since the person confessed to everything, there is not much of a case to do
