I fractured my finger. I punched the wall and my knuckle was hurting really bad so I thought I fractured that but the x rays said it was my pinky finger. It doesn't hurt at all though. My doctor said to just let it go. Its so small don't do anything about it. I don't want it to get worse and I don't know if he is correct. I fractured my finger before and it was pretty much the same size. And I put a cast of it for a month. Should I go get a second opinion or what? Kind of weird I fractured my finger and he said don't worry about it right?

My husband hit his thumb real hard at work and when he went to the ER the x-ray didn't show anything. The hospital called the house the next day and said he had a hairline fracture in the thumb and he could come in for a cast or not. His choice. I asked if the cast was really necessary and they said no, not if the thumb does not hurt or swell up. He never got the cast and I never told him his thumb was fractured.

So in your case I think they told you the right into. If your finger does start swelling or hurting, then go back for another look see and maybe then get a cast if you feel you warrant it.

Since it's not a complete break there is little that can be done with a fracture.

Your doctor is in all likelihood correct. (S)he have observed and interpreted your condition. Nonetheless, if you are uncomfortable with the opinion then by all means get a second opinion.

You should be commended for your inquisition. More people should question their medical diagnoses.

ADDED: My opinion is not in conflict with J_9 nor Twinkdooter There is in all likelihood no need for additional medical diagnostics. My recommendation is based on confirmation. You should be comfortable with the diagnosis and treatment plan. If that requires second or ten additional opinions then that is my recommendation.

Thank you everyone for your response. Its not swelling or bothering me, so for now I will just let it be.
