I have not gotten a answer but I started experimenting. From the pull chain switch I can shut it off, the next position is slow, second is high and the third is medium. My colors are Black, Brown, Grey and Purple. Black is the power feed, grey is slow, brown is medium and purple is high. The switch is a Westinghouse 77021 3 Speed fan switch-4 wire unit. I will look up Westinghouse wiring but does the black line(power)always get hooked up to the L position. When I do, it never shuts off. A typical hook up is Black-L, Grey-1, Brown-2 and Purple-3. When done that way, it does not shut off, and only two speeds.
Trying many different wirings, I can now shut it off but black is in the 1 position, grey is not used (nothing to L) and brown goes to 3, purple to 2, from the off position to the next is Slow, then High and then Medium. Crazy as it sounds, that is what it is doing. What I will do today is switch brown to 2 and purple to 3 to get speeds in order if it does and it is usually Off, High, Medium and then Slow. My concerns is safety, and the order of speeds is secondary.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thank You
