Woke up this morning to find that my dogs Mouth & Eyes have swelled up like he has had an allergic reaction to somert. He is still energetic & still wants to be close to me like normal. It doesn't seem to have affected his breathing either. His still wagging his tail & his nose is dry. He isn't had any open wounds iether at any point of his life.

It could be an allergic reaction or it could be a bite of some sort.

Is there any chance he could have been bitten by a snake? If not I would bet it's some sort of bug.

One of mine was bitten by a bull-ant about a year ago and his whole face swelled up, it was quite frightening but I called the after hours vet and it was recommended that I wait it out.
Keep a very close eye on him and it is starts to affect his breathing get him in to the vet immediately, same goes for vomiting or lethargy.

For most bug bites swelling should subside, or at least appear to lessen after an hour or two. If it last any longer than that, once again, off to the vet immediately.

You can try antihistamines, but unless administered immediately after the bite they tend not to have much of an effect. I would give your vet a call (they won't charge for a phone consult) and just see if they think it is worth bringing him in for a check-up.

Yer no snakes bar for Black Adders in this Country. Wich are pisonous. & maybe the odd grass snake. Phoned the PDSA this morning & the vet there basically said it sounds like an allergic reacttion. Possibly to a Bee or Wasp sting or some sort of bug. They said to apply damp, cold flannels to the area. & to keep an eye on whether the swelling gets worse or if it begins to affect his breathing, eating or drinking. Which was & is normal now. His face now has almost returned to normal Now. Just a tiny bit puffy. But nothing like when I woke up.

Thank you for coming back to give us an update, that's great to hear that he's better now. It's certainly a scary experience for both of you.

Yer that it is. This is my 2nd dog. Had to give up my first which was 5 years of age 3 & an half years ago due to being made homeless. Had a scare with her too & she had to stay in at vets overnight. She was throwing up bile & well basically turned out to be an infection due to her not being spaded. Originally they thought it to be a chicken bone. So I aviod that with my new dog.
But yer this is my 2nd dog now & he is only like 5 months old. First time I seen that with a dog. He appears to be perfectly normal now. Face is back to normal & everything. So that's good. But yer when I woke up & saw him like that it was a scare & an half. Glad his better now I am. Thanks for the advice.
