We have a 1hp submersible well pump that is about 3 years old. A few days ago the control box burnt out. (guy said looked like lightning hit it) We replaced that and everything worked fine until today. Now it was trying to turn on but only for a few seconds at a time. Never built any pressure. Power is good at all points that we can check without pulling the pump up out of the well. Any ideas if it isn't the pump itself. We have 12 people depending on water from the well. We are hoping that we can figure this out ourselves and not have to pay a well guy to come fix it.

Now it was trying to turn on but only for a few seconds at a time. What do mean by "trying to come on"? Is it blowing the breakers? More details please.
If lightning took out the control box then chances are it got into the motor windings as well and the only way to check that is with a AMP-Probe or by pulling the pump. If you're feeding power to the pump the problem is either in the cable or the motor windings. Let me know what you find. Good luck, Tom

It is not blowing the breakers. You can hear a sound like it's turning on but it only stays on for a few seconds.

I don't see where you have much choice. That pump just has to come up and be checked out. Good luck, Tom

It ended up being the starter on the pump motor. Luckily it was under warranty and we only had to pay the labor. Thanks for the help.
