View Full Version : I have been thrown out of my house, is this abandonment?

I am currently a 16 year old in New Jersey. I do not consider my home life fun, nor do I consider it secure. My mother and I recently got into a heated argument (again) about something trivial (again) and she then kicked me out of my own house. This is the second time in the last two months I have been kicked out for literally asking a question. I do not consider myself an angel but I am certainly not "a little monster" as she calls me. Anyway, I would like to know any sort of laws which pertain to child abandonment, neglect, etc.

Go to your local Police Department and tell the Police you have been locked out and have nowhere to go. They will call Child Protective Services and that Agency will proceed against your mother. Not having a fun homelife is not abuse. Throwing a 16-year old out into the street is.

Family Services will probably recommend a group home or foster situation for you.

Your mother can also declare you are out of control, "relinquish" her parenting rights and agree to place you in a facility or home.
