I was adopted may 5, 1976 and born July 18, 1973 in lansing, my. I know my adoption records were sealed by my birth mother and am not sure of my biological last name(my adopted mom said she thinks its Frizell but I'm not sure as to the spelling). I have 3 biological siblings and my birth certificate gives my adopted parents as my biological parents and that's about all I know. Any helpful hints to find them?

Normally unless there is a real need to open the records, merely your "desire" to know is not enough, so there is no real motion to file without good cause. Is there a life threatening illness that can only be solved by finding a blood relation ?

Since you are talking to your parents about this, ask them to allow you to see a copy of the adoption paperwork that they have.

It will also show the hospital where you were born or at least the city, that should be the real place of birth, often in the 70's births were listed in local news papers, so search the local papers for that time frame.

All you can do is apply to the state records court for information, which they will do IF your birth mother ever contacts them to do the same. She may have, and they are waiting for you, or she may never do it. You won't know if you don't apply. They don't contact either person. You parents can help direct you to the adoption agency to see if they have any clues, but they may refuse. Laws do change; sometimes stricter and sometimes more open.

These days there are countless online sites for putting in your birth date and searching, and since you have siblings, that will make it much more possible, with all your birth dates. Just keep typing into search, starting with the state and year and maybe the agency.
