What I can remember of a particular movie from mid 80s to early 90s but possibly earlier as some shots were black and white. I could remember at the beginning a woman being beaten by a man(husband?), a relationship with the mother, possibly in a dream there is door she has to open signifying an age of her life if this is correct. The ending of the film is in colour the daughter being an old woman greets the mother being a young woman. Please help me with the title or other suggestions.

Is it a Hollywood movie? I think it is better if you describe the language, region and other details and if possible the actors, even if one or two.

Thank you for your reply. I saw this film in Italy but I believe it was originally an american, Hollywood movie, unlikely Italian. Unfortunately I cannot track down any of the names of the actors otherwise it would be an easy search. I would listed under fantasy drama, I am sure it is listed in in the internet movie database, but it is hard to browse over 93,000 titles. What I remained impressed is about a door among many signify if this is correct the ages of our life and the ending in colour when the old-aged daughter say "Hello" to a young mother.
