It is very common for a bulb that is reaching it's normal end of life to fail when current reaches it. The "Inrush current" will sometimes burn the filament into two pieces.

I know to change the light bulb, it shorted most of my outlets on the second floor of my house half of my kitchen lights, diningroom lights, inside porch and garage are not working since this bulb blew I changed breaker.
