Hi gotoutofhere and welcome, Can you give a little more info? Do you have a septic or city sewer? Where is the water coming from? Washer?

Sounds like you might have a blockage that will need to be snaked.

Good luck and let us know. Ok?

Oh, you can buy drain plugs at most big box store or plumbing supplies.

need to stop water from coming into my basement from my drain backing up.What type of plug do I buy I have exactly what you're looking for. Flood Guard, (see image) fits in your floor drain and allows 6the floor drain to be used but plugs it off at the first sign of as back up. Heck 6them out at:http://www.plumbingsupply.com/floodguard.html
Parttime wants to know what causes the back up and so do I. Is it a city back up where everybody floods out or is it a blockage in your own system. Back to you, Tom

Plug will stop your floor drain from allowing water to enter your basement. However, it is not the solution to your problem. By plugging the drain, you will transfer water to another outlet. Water backing up through floor drain indicates that drain is clogged and should be cleaned. Rent 3/8" electric snake and snake the line. Back to you. Milo
