Ok so just going to tell you a bit of backstory first. I am fourteen years old and I watch T.V and eat dinner with my parents every night and spend lots of time with them. We have been doing this for years, since I was 10-11. Now they want to watch Pretty Little Liars with me because its really popular and we are all murder mystery buffs.
Thing is I watch Pretty Little Liars with my friends and I want it to stay that way. I only have a couple things I'm interested in and watch/read without my parents (Doctor Who, hunger games, sisterhood of the traveling pants, cirque du freak, Luxe, gemma doyle trilogy.) and I do a LOT of things with my parents, and now I want to keep pretty little liars to myself.
I already tried to tell them its for little girls, I want to just keep it for myself and my friends, that I do a lot with them already, and even that I think its weird to watch PLL and such with my parents and that I don't want to. But my Dad only said like "then you don't have to watch it WITH us, we will watch it on our own" and when I said that its for kids and like, every girl in school watches it he said "then you and your mum should watch it!" and so after a few days of not mentioning it I thought they had forgotten but they hadn't because last night they were talking about it and my dad told my mum all about it and now they both want to watch it and they said "At least the first episode!"
So I secretly watched the first episode to see if my parents would approve and I know they wouldn't. Because of a number of reasons. 1.) Hannah stealing 2.) hannahs mum making out in front of her 3.) Spencer stealing her sisters boyfriends 4.) Emily being a lesbian (nothing wrong with that I just know my parents wouldn't want me open to that yet.) 5.) Emily kissing a girl 6.) Aria dating her teacher 7.) Aria making out with her teacher in the bathroom 8.) Arias dad cheating 9.) A calling them *****es and actually a lot more.
I know it seems petty and everything but I know all about this and I don't believe I am too young for Pretty Little Liars, but I know they will think I am and I already told them I like it and they think I am still a perfect little kid and I don't want them to think otherwise. They don't think I swear (I don't really, but I do a little and only rarely), they don't think I'm even interested in boys yet or not to full extent, they think me and my friends are perfect nice girls (which we pretty much are, we never have done or will do drugs or anything, none of us even have boyfriends, we are all fairly good in school and we are kind of nerdy.) and yada yada yada. I do try really hard at school and get good grades in everything but math and science (my weak spots) and I maintain a really good relationship with my parents.
Anyway back to the point, I don't know what to say to my parents to get them to change their minds. There is few things I want for myself and this is one of them, I told them that but they don't understand or care. I think they actually are interested in it but also want to see if its appropriate. And honestly I'm getting annoyed at what a strict rein they hold over me. I constantly feel pressure to be perfect for them and I do everything and be everything they want me to do and be but still they are not (or don't show it) happy with me. They even wanted to send me to a private girls school but I persuaded them to just let me go to an arts school where there is barely any boys, and the school has an amazing rep.
If any of you have any suggestions on what I could say to get them to not watch PLL and let me have it for myself please do. Sorry this had so much random info and was kind of all over the place but I just wanted for you to know the sort of situation I'm in first.
