View Full Version : Goodman Ignitor issue

I have a Goodman GMPN 100-4 furnace. My issues started last year, fixing one thing at a time. Most recent was a cracked drip pan from the AC coil. The water from this got into the area where the control board was. Long story short - I replaced the flame sensor, control board, and ignitor. When I turn it on, the vent comes on, then 'click' and where the ignitor should light up, it doesn't, then the gas comes on - realizes no flame, and shuts off. Here's where it gets strange - before I changed the dying circuit board and the ignitor, the ignitor would light up. No blinking lights either. I read another post about my ignitor getting 115v. Right now, the white wire from the ignitor relays down to a neutral on the board, and the black goes to an IND spot. The 115v spot on my board has a plastic plug over it. On the old board, there was no 115v spot. I'm wondering if that's where my black wire should be going? Help

Sounds like to me you got your black wire in the wrong spot IND is for the inducer fan motor(vent motor)

My vent motor is working fine though.?

I misspoke - motor wire going to ind correctly. Black wire from Ignitor going to M2. Not sure what the codes are on the board.

There should be an input tab labeled HSI in between the IND and M1&M2 tabs. HSI stands for Hot Surface Ignitor.

Ok -that's very helpful JonesHVAC. Thanks. I had a tech take a look at the situation before I changed out the board just to give me an idea of what was going on. He hard wired some things to test them out, I'm not sure he put everything back where it was supposed to be on the board. The HSI was not connected after he left. What WAS connected was 4 white neutrals, 1 white and 1 Black (for the primary transformer), 1 Black to the L2 (what is that?), 1 Black to the Inducer (it's paired white is one of the neutral), HSI was empty, M1 is Red (looks like it connects to the blower fan area), M2 is black (connects to the ignitor), 1 Black to the Cool, and 1 Blue to the Heat (both going back by the blower fan area). Transformer 9pin has the Red 24v and blue common and ground at the top of the transformer. Last but not least are the red, green, and white - (thermostat?) going to R, G, W. The white block plug on the side only fit in one way, so that has to be correct.

And a blue to the FS spot.

WOW! Ok... Pull everything! We are going to start from scratch. Obviously the harness speaks for itself so I'm skipping it. Main Power --> Black to L2, White to Neutral. For the Ignitor --> Black to HSI, White to Neutral. For the Blower --> Black to Cool, Blue to Heat, Red to M1 (this is a park terminal), White to Neutral. For the Transformer --> Black & White will be seated next to each other meaning White will be next to the Neutral terminals and Black will be next to the L2 terminal, its area will be labeled pri trans. For Inducer Motor --> Black to IND, White to Neutral. FS is the Flame Sensor has one wire, should be orange. W, G, R is your stat terminals and are color coded the same, if not process of elimination is W to W, R to R, and what is left over is G. Let me know how you make out.

Outstanding. Everything comes on as it should. The tech must have mistakenly put the black Ignitor wire on the M2 plug (or not so mistakenly, who knows). THank you thank you thank you!
