I have been on unemployment from the state of Tn since May of 2011. I recently moved to Oklahoma to look for work. All I have is my 275.00 unemployment check. Today I went to the mail & years ago and I mean like 4 or maybe 5 I must have had an overpayment on food stamps & afdc. I paid on it for some time then they quit sending notices. My fault I should have contacted them, I agree. But now probably 4 yrs later the State of Tn is billing me :( I am petrified! Will they take my unemployment benefits and not tell me? The address the initially had on the envelope was a place I hadn't lived in 4 yrs. They never contacted me at my job that I got laid off on. There is a payment coupon slip with the paper. Should I pay what I can ? And if they do will they still intercept my unemployment benefits? If so I will be homeless. :( I take responsibility, but what do I do?

Tennessee may take your UE check. Best to pay something on it now. How big an overpayment are we talking here?

1440.00 on food stamps 900.00 on afdc all they send was a paper and said payment due by oct 31,2011 and u write in the amount u are paying. What I don't understand is why they didn't contact me 6 months ago. I am so nervous about it. Can they take your whole check or just garnish it?

Also would they give me notification if they were going to? The letter also stated it was actually like an invoice at the bottom if you are having problems paying please call the following # which I did and they were already closed for the day and said to call back on Monday. I will worry all weekend and I know I can't do anything over the weekend, but I can't come up with that full amount but I can try and pay on it.
