My wedding is in July and my fianc?(C) and I are trying to decide on wither or not it would be apporiate for me to wear a short cocktail length white dress. I think it would be fine but he thinks that it would be to dressy sense none of our families will know about the wedding until after its all said and done. Its not that we don't want them to know its just we don't want them to have much say in the whole thing.

Its your wedding. If no one will see it, who is it going to be inappropriate to? Wear what you want, and enjoy the moment.

Yes, its your wedding, you can wear whatever you want. But wear something that won't leave you with regrets in the future.
And what I mean... if you wear old jeans and a flannel shirt... the memories won't be as good as a borrowed, rented or even second hand dress would be.

You wear whatever makes you happy. Smoothy is right here, people may judge, but it will only be momentary. Regret about your wedding dress will last a lifetime!

So wearing what makes me happy would be best but may my fiancé have a so say in it at all?

Well I would hope that if you are getting married, the things that make you happy would be somewhat similar, and that there is room for compromise. If his main concern is not how you feel but what other people will think, his priorities are backwards. Your wedding is for the two of you, everything and everyone else is an accessory. Keep the focus on the two of you and off everyone else.
I have been married for three years, and I still wish I has bought the wedding dress I wanted. Don't get me wrong, my dress was beautiful, and I felt beautiful in it, but it wasn't THE DRESS. As petty as it sounds, I don't think that feeling will ever go away.
