Consider a random sample of 125 patients, some of whome have a medical condition and some of whome do not. Results of a new diagnostic tests for the condition are shown.

Condition Present Condition Absent Row Total
Test Result 103 22 125
Test Result - 22 48 70
Column Total 125 70 195

Assume that the sample is representative of the entire population. For a person selected at random, find P(getting test result or condition absent). Round your answer to the nearest thousandth.

I thought it was 103/125 + 70/125

I assume that you mean P(Get the test result as positive or Condition absent) ?

If so, then the number of people who got a positive test result or the number of people who don't have the condition is simply 103 + 22 + 48

Divide that by the total number of people, 195 to get the answer.
