Hi All Great website.

I was employed in canada from jan 1 2011 - may 20, 2011. Upon my termination from my job I received payment for my registered pension plan(8800) that I placed in RRSP's. I accepted a job and am being employed at a non-profit hospital on H1B which is effective till May 19, 2014. My annual salary is 87000/year and I received sign bonus and relocation assistance.

My question is what is the best way to file taxes?

If you are married, then almost for sure, filing jointly and claiming the Foreign Tax Credit (Form 1116) is the best way to go.

If you are NOT married, you will file as a dual-status alien, filing a dual-status return. The dual-status return is NOT for amateurs; GET PROFESSIONAL HELP!
