I am on OPT currently I am working in atlanta and my employer is in New York. Which state tax I need pay New York or atlanta tax. I can see New York state tax on my payroll will it effect me like my H1 and about to file for H1 this year or next year. Please suggest me the on the taxes and I also want to know what is the federal tax percentage I am supposed to pay when I am in Opt. Is it same for all the staes or it will vary for every state when I am on OPT.

If you work and live in Georgia, then you pay GEORGIA state income taxes.

MAKE SURE your employer knows this so he does NOT withhold NY state income taxes anymore AND that he refunds the NY state taxes withheld to date. If the NY state taxes cannot be refunded, you will need to request a total refund from NY state come January 2012.
