You aren't thinking this through correctly. You need to sit down with your husband, no matter what your differences and talk this out. There must be a suitable solution between the two of your for an amicable separation, if that is the way it has to be.
If you are completely serious about your intentions, you need to go to a lawyer and discuss what your options are and there are many, but you have to do it with a cool head. Your children are top priority.

If the car is in his name only, you can't just take it. There could be some arguments over whether its community or marital property, but that would be argued in court.
You can leave and go back home, but you may not be able to file for divorce in Illinois until you establish residency. This can be a murky issue since you are military and depends on where your permanent residence is.
My suggestion is to consult an attorney before you do anything. Trying to reconcile with your husband may be the best choice. I'll also note that with a 3 month old, your issues may be partially hormonal.
